The pearl on the Silk Road - Loulan (below) The historical importance of Loulan lies in its geographical location. Before 2000, it was an important transportation hub where the north and south of the Silk Road penetrated and where East meets West. It shoulders the important task of ushering in the Silk Road and replenishing it. The South and North Roads of the Silk Road are divided by Loulan for a long period of time. Lou Lan is in a strategic position of “West Dangling, strong south, strong Xiongnu, northern Xiongnu, and close to Dunhuang.” As a result, the Han dynasty and the Huns tried their best to take Loulan as their own. The flourishing history of Loulan also benefits from its unique natural environment. Loulan, then, was given a vast river by the gifts of the Tarim River and the Peacock River.
