金刚石微切削加工与常规加工的不同之处在于,它使用的是金刚石刀具。由于单晶体的金刚石刀具具有极高的硬度,而磨损率又很低,因此它可以刃磨出其它刀具不可能达到和保持的高光洁度。这样,它的摩擦系数就很低,切屑在刀刃上滑动的阻力也很小。它的导热性很高,加工时产生的热量可迅速散去,而不损伤刀尖。所以这种工艺特别适合于加工精密表面或形位公差要求很高的精密零件。据报导,加工表面的光洁度,其均方根值小于50埃。加工的典型产品包括计算机存贮磁盘、透镜等高精度零件。
The difference between diamond micro-machining and conventional machining is that it uses a diamond tool. Because single-crystal diamond tools have extremely high hardness and low wear rates, they can sharpen the high-finish that other tools can not achieve and maintain. In this way, it has a very low coefficient of friction and little drag on the blade. Its high thermal conductivity, heat generated during processing can quickly disperse, without damaging the tip. Therefore, this process is particularly suitable for machining precision surfaces or high tolerance of the form of precision parts. It has been reported that the finish of the machined surface has a root mean square value of less than 50 angstroms. Typical products include computer storage disk, lens and other high-precision parts.
