造林整地是水土保持治坡工程的重要组成部分,是造林的基础。通过造林整地改变微地形,拦泥蓄水,控制水土流失,为树木提供水土肥源,提高造林成活率,促进幼树生长,使其早日郁闭成林。据辽宁省干旱造林研究所资料分析,五年生油松林,穴状整地的树木生长量为对照(不整地)的170%,减少水土流失22.9%,鱼鳞坑整地的树木生长量为对照的300%,减少水土流失74.7%。
