当代金属材料物理检测发展趋势可归纳为:微处理器或计算机与测试设备联用;试样小型化;金相检验扩大应用;开发测试新技术;复合材料测试技术的改进;提高断裂韧性试验水平等方面。例如,美国西屋公司Handford工程开发实验室已将计算机与测试设备联用,为研究材料的机械性能提供了新的可能。已测出反应堆结构材料的弹塑性断裂韧性和反应堆燃料包套管的破裂特性。
The development trend of contemporary metal material physics detection can be summarized as follows: the combination of microprocessor or computer with test equipment; miniaturization of sample; metallurgical test to expand application; development and testing of new technologies; improvement of composite material testing technology; improvement of fracture toughness test level etc. For example, the Westinghouse Handford Engineering Development Laboratory has combined computers with test equipment to provide new possibilities for studying the mechanical properties of materials. The elasto-plastic fracture toughness of the reactor structural material and the rupture characteristics of the reactor fuel cladding have been measured.
