1965年在苏联发现。物理性质呈粉末状或放射状集合体。由于晶体太小(仅0.n—0.0n mm)晶形辨别不出,只有在高倍显微镜下才能看出针状晶体,其尖端呈正方形或非对称的尖形,清楚的晶形只有在电子显微镜下可见(图25)。比较大的晶粒中勉强见到解理平行晶体延长方向。颜色为褐色到红褐色。微透明。在双目镜下可见红色的内反射。硬度3.3(约105kg/mm~2)。比重4.2。光学性质在透射光下颜色为红褐色到黑色不透明。二轴晶。由于矿物微透明光性测定比较困难。多色性弱:Ng——红褐色,Nm和Np——黑红褐色。折光率>1.789。正延长。消光角(Ng∧晶体延长方向)为38°在反射光下呈带褐色色调的灰色。反射率为11.8%。非均质性很弱,为其强红色的内反射所掩盖。
