I. Methods and Data Used In this paper, based on 39 earthquakes and using the method of surface-type surface wave mass velocities, the crustal thickness in the eastern half of the country, the shallow sea and the eastern part of the Tibet Plateau are determined. The data used include records of ten basic seismographs in China’s ten basic seismic stations. The magnitudes of the selected earthquakes are all above Grade 5, except shallow earthquakes except for some earthquakes. (See Table 1 and Figure 1). The parameters of the earthquake before September 1961 are taken from the BCIS report. For other earthquakes, the parameters given in the interim report of China and the Soviet Union
