Objective: To explore the selective attention function of adolescent Internet addicts. Methods: Forty-eight adolescents with internet addiction and 50 normal controls were tested with Stroop test (ST) and its variants, and the results were compared. Results: The total ST time, the incorrect number and the correction of Stroop test-color (ST-C) were higher in the internet addiction group than in the control group (P <0.01). The reaction time of internet addiction and emotional vocabulary in adolescent internet addiction group was significantly lower than that in control group (P <0.05). There were significant differences (P <0.05) in response time of online related words and emotional words in addiction group compared with neutral words, while there was no significant difference (P> 0.05) in response time of online words and emotional words. CONCLUSIONS: Adolescents with Internet addiction significantly impair the ability of attentional distribution and cognition conflicts, with noticeable bias toward internet and emotional-related stimuli.
