The Czech-French writer Milan Kundera is both a novelist with a strong sense of existence and a critic who has a clear-cut history of fiction. This article analyzes Kundera ’s concept of novel history expressed in his novels and theories. Kundera holds that the history of novels is different from the general history, and emphasizes the continuity of the aesthetic value of the novels and the discovery of the spirit of the novel, which becomes the fundamental position of Kundera’s novels. This position has two meanings: First, the history of novels has the continuity of time, delaying, modern novels thus become a diachronic art whole; Second, the history of the novel has spatial expansibility, stretchability, European novel "thus becomes an indivisible synchronic art whole. Kundera’s concept of novel history, in addition to reflecting his unique practical consciousness as a novelist, is closely related to his contemplation of the current situation and fate of the novel
