Objective To understand and analyze the status quo of TB laboratories in Guangdong Province at all levels and provide decision-making basis for the construction of TB laboratories in the province in the next step. Methods The laboratory information questionnaire was distributed to provincial, municipal, and county TB laboratories, including laboratory equipment, human resources, projects and quality, and scientific research work. The questionnaires were reviewed and statistically analyzed after recovery. Results The provincial TB laboratory undertakes the work of reference laboratories in the province and possesses strong scientific research strength. The prefecture-level laboratories mainly carry out isolation and culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (81.0%), drug sensitivity test (81.0%) and molecular biology Examination (47.6%), county (district) level laboratory mainly smear (100%) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolation culture (40.4%). In terms of human resources, there are 407 staff members in TB laboratories at all levels in the province, of whom 70.5% have college degree or above, 76.9% have junior and intermediate professional titles, and 18.4% have intermediate professional titles, accounting for 90.9% of medical examinations. At present, all the TB laboratories in the province are equipped with Class II biological safety cabinets, and 90% of laboratories are equipped with equipment necessary for culturing and susceptibility testing such as incubators and vortex oscillators. Conclusion It is necessary to continue to increase funding for TB laboratories and provide technical training so as to further strengthen laboratory capacity building so that it can meet the requirements of TB prevention and control planning as soon as possible.
