Poliomyelitis cases caused by polioviruses have ceased to exist in the United States since 1980, and vaccine-associated paralytic poliomyelitis (VAPP) has become a major genus of the disease. The authors summarize the national polio surveillance data from 1960 to 1989 and report on wild-type, vaccine-associated, and imported polio
