稍间和尽间是仿木结构墓碑建筑的外侧空间。相较于墓碑建筑实体结构上的雕刻图像而言,作为开间之内“虚”空间中的雕刻图像,无论是主题的选取、图像的尺度及其表现技巧都有较大的自由度和灵活性。它们在很大程度上已经脱离了墓葬建筑装饰本身的功能和象征意义,成为艺术家的“独立创作”。通过那些熟悉的人物、奇幻的传说、宏大的场面、复杂的构图、高超的工艺技巧所创造出来的观看的愉悦背后,既有造墓人的用心、匠师的炫技;也有对传统教化、审美、习俗等的多重层次的指示性。
Slightly and all the time is the outer space of the tombstone architecture. Compared with the carved images on the tombstone’s physical structure, as sculpture images in the space between the tombstones, there are more degrees of freedom in both the selection of topics, the scale of images and their expression skills flexibility. They have largely separated from the functional and symbolic significance of the burial architectural decoration itself and become the artist’s “independent creation.” Behind the delight of watching created by those familiar figures, fantastic legends, grand scenes, complicated compositions and superb craftsmanship, there is not only the masters’ Aesthetic, customs and other multi-level instructions.
