Over the past 25 years, optical engineering and optical design have evolved from a personal, intuitive approach to today’s highly sophisticated approach. The rapid development in the field of electro-optics has a strong influence on this subject and is likely to change many of the methods in optical engineering in the next few years. In the last quarter of the century, the most significant achievement in optical engineering and optical design was the development of program-related large computer programs that optimized the lens design.
