本文把曾氏文论本身作为一个有机的学科体系,且从全部中国古代文论的历时态与晚清文学思潮共时态的比较研究中,探寻到其文论的总纲─—文道一统、明体达用,分目─—兼收并蓄、博大圆通,和本质─—实事求是、识时达变,从而为之建立起一个较为完整的逻辑理论体系。曾氏古文观既适应了文学观念自身演进的需要,又表现出鲜明的时代精神,他为挽回传统文化日趋衰落的败势而采取的开放宏阔的眼光、圆滑通变的态度和文以致用的方略、既是对封建文化与文学所进行的一种自觉总结的表现,更是他在中国社会面临变革的历史关头,作为封建地主阶级的政治代言人与文化代言人自觉为本阶级政治与文化利益寻求出路和发展机会的产物,显示出深刻的现实基础与深远的历史渊源.不可一概加以否定。
