苏联文化部近来在研究话剧院剧目方面做了许多工作,曾经召开会议,和剧作家们,莫斯科、列宁格勒、基辅以及其他各地剧院的艺术工作者们共同商讨这一项问题。目前已经判明的情况是,苏联作者的作品、特别是现代题材的剧作在剧目中所占的地位显然很小。剧作和演出的思想水平和艺术水平也显然低落。从观众的数量上来看,占首位的一些剧作,如明柯的「姑隐其名」,索洛达里的「在紫丁香花园里」等,就其思想、艺术素质来说,也是名不符实的。
