Wei Yeh was an important member of Yuanmingyuan Painter Village and for Wei Yeh, the years spent in the painter’s village at Yuanmingyuan are undoubtedly the most significant period of his artistic career. Wei Ye focuses on the artistic creation from the perspective of social issues or through the reinterpretation of the natural landscape to express the artist’s lack of human spirit in the era of rapid development of modernization. In Wei Ye’s opinion, the purely material cultural background of China is particularly influential to himself. As an artist, he can express this feature of today’s society through his profound knowledge of matter. In this sense, the work of art can become a kind of “huge evidence” to witness this era, thus provoking people’s reflection on this phenomenon.
