在60年代,越南境内拥有2000多千米铁路系统,为当时法属印度支那总督保罗·杜梅将军所设计,始建于1896~1902年。越战开始后,这一铁路系统发挥了极大的作用,中、苏的援越物经过河内转运,必须经过杜梅大桥,运往南方的物资则要通过清化大桥,因此美军把它们称作“北越铁路系统中的致命弱点”和“最具挑战性的战略目标”。杜梅桥座落于河内郊区,横跨红河,是北方最长的桥梁。越南北部几乎全部铁路干线和支线都要经过该桥,桥的西、南面为河内市区,东部靠近嘉林机场工业区,四周散布着星落的小村镇和水稻田。
In the 1960s, Vietnam had more than 2,000 kilometers of railroad system and was designed by General Paul Dumei, Governor of the French Indochina at that time. It was first built in 1896-1902. After the start of the Vietnam War, the railway system played a very significant role. The Chinese and Soviet aid and transboundary objects passing through Hanoi had to pass through the Du Mei Bridge and the materials destined for the south had to pass through the Qinghua Bridge. Therefore, the U.S. military referred to them as “Achilles' heel of the North Vietnamese rail system” and “The Most Challenging Strategic Objectives.” Du Mei Bridge is located in the outskirts of Hanoi, across the Red River, is the longest bridge in the north. Almost all of the railways and spur lines in northern Vietnam pass through the bridge. The west and south of the bridge are urban Hanoi. The eastern part is close to the industrial area of Jialin Airport. There are scattered small towns and paddy fields scattered around the country.
