As a successful white writer, Faulkner fails to take a fair attitude towards racism. In the novel, there is no black people support Lucas. All views come from the white. The black have no chance to express their ideas. Other blacks even have no name and not even to express their ideas. All we can hear are the voices come from the white. 4. Conclusion
Faulkner expresses his racial attitudes in different ways. Because of his complex background, he has both pro-racialism and anti-racialism in his novel. On the one hand, he has anti-racialism attitude and sympathy towards the black. On the other hand, he is discriminate towards the black and he has pro-racialism attitude towards the black. Therefore, these lead to Faulkner’s contradictory stance in racism.
