F.A.Todd教授撰写的“系统防治”(System Control)是为了适应烟草病害既复杂又多变,单一的防治方法极难生效,也是为了烟草生产因新技术的施行,生产的统一,集中和机械化程度增加的趋向,劳动力紧张而发生的一系列变化以及生产安全产品的需要.系统防治是总结了1966~1977年十一年来,群众性的850个试验和广大烟农的意见而产生的,是从实践中来的防治方法.本文列举了五种烟草主要病害在北卡罗里纳州分布,为害现状,及决断其侵染水平的准则. 系统防治可归六类,即A、B、C、D、E和F,每一防治系统各不相同.系统A是为有危急病害的大田设计的,系统B是为连作大田设计的,系统C是为土地较多,可规划适当轮作的农场设计的,系统D是为土地充足可广泛选用品种设计的,系统E是为黑胫,青枯侵染水平很低,根瘤虫口低→高的大田设计的,系统F是为最近未观察到病害损伤大田设计的.使用系统防治,制订系统规划,其程序有五:第一,决断存在的主要病害是什么;第二,病害的侵染水平怎样;第三研究生产方法和规划;第四,选定一种系统;第五,制定防治作法的规划.做法有七,它们是:施行操作R-9-P,选定耕作制,挑取适合所选系统的抗病品种,防治苗病害,抑制花叶病,挑取适合所选系统的化学土壤处理和防治褐斑病.最后列举了九条应用系统防治的注意事项. 系统、程序和做法的搭配取舍是依据病情和生产情势,体现了因地制宜,因条件而变化的伸缩性.美国烟草生产情况和我国不同,但烟草病害的种类和为害程度则与我国有许多相似处,因而本文对我国烟草病害防治是有参考价值的.
