Opioid peptides exert many biological effects as an important class of neuroactive substances. Recently, studies have shown that opioids have an effect on insulin release. Insulin is an important hormone secreted by pancreatic beta cells, which regulate the body’s blood sugar. Therefore, these results may open a new world for the treatment of diabetes, but its specific mechanism of action is not yet clear. According to the research results at home and abroad and the latest research progress, this paper mainly introduces the physiological functions of opioid peptides and their receptors, the opioid receptor-mediated signal transduction and the regulatory mechanism of opioid peptides on insulin release.
