Entamoeba histolytica and non-pathogenic E. Dispar close, but there are also significant differences in genetics. Although both are parasitic in the human gut, it is difficult to distinguish morphologically. Entamoeba histolytica can invade tissues and cause hemorrhagic colitis or extraintestinal abscess; and E. dispar is a non-pathogenic parasitic protozoan. As the two are highly similar in genetic background, cell biology and host, comparing the differences between the two can provide a way to analyze and identify the pathogenic factors of intestinal parasites.
