Although it is generally believed that improving government transparency is one of the effective ways to improve the public’s trust in the government (political trust), whether transparency of government work can certainly enhance public confidence in the government is an issue that needs to be empirically verified. Based on data from a large Chinese urban public service quality survey conducted in 2011, this paper tests the relationship between government transparency and public political trust using a multiple linear regression model. The study found that in China, improving government transparency can indeed effectively enhance the public’s trust in the government. However, male urban residents and the elderly are more likely to believe the government. The higher the income, the higher the education level, the longer the residence time in the city where they live Urban residents have relatively low political trust.
