In 2011, a magnitude 9.0 earthquake hit Honshu Island in Japan, triggering a series of secondary disasters such as tsunamis, fires and nuclear leaks, causing heavy losses to Japan. However, due to Japan’s advanced seismic design, Japan’s housing structure did not show extensive damage or collapse during the earthquake. Japan is one of the most earthquake-hit countries in the world and a leader in seismic design technology. Through the design of seismic structure in Japan, the design of the structure, site selection and construction materials selection in many aspects. It gives a brief introduction to the design of anti-seismic buildings in Japan and hopes to inspire our seismic design ideas.
