1 At 0530 hours on December 16, 1944, the Germans raided the Allies without warning and the war on the west started a resurgence. The bustling town of Bastogne received a notice of emergency evacuation. Some of the townsfolk thought the war was over and the Nazis in Germany were powerless to return to their homeland. They did not want to leave their hometown again because of fuss. However, this is by no means a trivial task. The German troops march in three routes to the south of Belgium in an attempt to cut off the supply line for the Allied forces. In the absence of preparedness, the Allied forces captured more than 7,000 people in less than a day, the most serious defeat the U.S. military encountered on the European battlefield.
