汉朝处于一个香薰活动的上升时期,而在汉代“求仙问道”风气下产生并发展起来的一款独特的熏炉——博山炉。河北满城中山靖王刘胜墓出土的错金博山炉,采用错金的装饰,巧夺天宫,集雕塑、铸造、绘画、金属工艺为一体,作为西汉时期工艺品的精华,所反映的时代精神、美学韵律颇耐人寻味。充分反映了汉代的气质与心态。
