Marshall described racism and economic oppression in the United States during the Great Depression and World War II attacks on lower-escalated Barbados immigrants in New York and the crisis in the United States of Barbados and their descendants revealing the immigration of U.S. immigrants Of inferiority complex, mental anxiety and their psychological variation, the anxiety caused by survival needs drive them to struggle for identity reconstruction. Instead of sinking in the inferiority complex, Marshall’s characters rise up in the sense of inferiority and bravely defend their legitimate rights and personal dignity. The anxiety experienced by the Barbados immigrants in New York City of the United States is not only their own personal experience, but also a true portrayal of the predicament and mentality of all American immigrants.
