Exxon has collected more than 400 pieces of 3D seismic data in 12 countries for $ 620 million, both as a manager and as a joint venture. Over the past decade, 3D seismic has begun to become an important part of exploration and development costs and has been growing rapidly year by year (Figure 1). To this end, Exxon has reevaluated its three-dimensional work in recent years with the aim of determining whether the technology is applied cost-effectively, setting standards and strategies for future applications and proposing technical developments and support to enhance its performance . The study includes qualitative evaluations based on history of exploration, a systematic analysis of the success rates of many drilling operations in the upstream industry, and a comprehensive economic analysis of two of the three-dimensional jobs that the company operates.
