刘坤一(1830——1902),湖南新宁人,清王朝后期湘系集团的重要领袖,历任江西巡抚、两广总督和两江总督。其中在两江总督兼南洋通商大臣这个重要职位上呆了十几年,“坐镇东南,屹然为中国之重”,其“声望一切均堪与傅相(李鸿章)匹敌”,为晚清一代重臣。面对是否学习西法之长技这个重大问题,刘坤一象那个时期的许多人一样,是有一个变化与发展过程的。
Liu Kunyi (1830-1902), an important leader of Xiangning Group in Hunan’s Xinning people and later Qing Dynasty, served successively as governor of Jiangxi, governor of Guangdong and Guangxi and governor of Liangjiang. One of the two governors and Nanyang Minister of Commerce in this important post for more than a decade, “sits in the southeast, Yi Ran China’s heavy” and its “reputation everything is comparable with Fu Xiang (Li Hung-chang)” for the late Qing generation minister.
