早在1964~1972年,“日本三菱重工业公司即与日本研究与开发公司共同搞过连续炼钢,并申请了专利。此后又有若干改进。 1980年,他们又与广岛公司合作,共同开发了利用废汽车及其他废钢的连续炼钢法. 1981年3月,建起了能力为15t/h的连续炼钢机组,试验一直进行到1982年11月。效果良好。该机组经改造后,已成为能力为20t/h的工业生产线。这条生产线包括:废钢熔化、精炼、二次精炼与连铸。工艺流程大体如下:
