谷子抗旱耐脊,旱薄地稳产,水肥地高产,是我国北方发展节水农业的理想作物,在农业产业结构调整中具有较强的优势。但80年代以来,谷锈病发生严重,据统计1990年盐山县6 700hm~2谷子中,1 300hm~2绝收,4 300hm~2减产 5成以上。类似现象在不同省、区时有发生。谷锈病的危害制约了谷子生产的发展。
