围绕着梅兰芳的文人,有意无意地将他们对中国古代文人的气韵,通过诗书画等各种方式,塑造了具有文人旨趣的梅兰芳。正是文人旨趣,使梅兰芳的身体表演美学的建构具有了“他者”的意味。文人士大夫通过面部表情、手势传情、咬字声情、身姿舞情和书画心情等文人所激赏的身体表演趣味引领着梅兰芳加以现代演艺观念的建构,使原本属于“下九流”的戏曲优伶作为“表演艺术家”的身份认同有了质的变更。文人塑造了梅兰芳的文人旨趣,梅兰芳也以他的影响力重塑了中国戏曲艺术的诗性品格,在现代的意义上回归了昆曲曾经达到的戏曲艺术的身体表演美学的文人理想。
