英国文学中的城市书写传统由来已久,现代主义作家更是对自己身处的城市青睐有加。20世纪后半叶以来批评理论的“空间转向”为我们深掘、细读英国作家的城市书写提供了合法性与有力武器。本文概述并总结了伍尔夫在《达洛卫夫人》和《伦敦风景》两种文体的城市书写中自觉与不自觉下所展露的对现代都市经验的态度以及重大命题的回避,而这种命题恰恰在继承了其城市书写特色的麦克尤恩的《星期六》中得到了积极的回应。
The writing tradition of cities in British literature has a long history. Modernist writers are even more interested in the cities in which they live.
