卡文迪许实验室是英国剑桥大学的物理实验室,实际上就是它的物理系。剑桥大学建于1209年,历史悠久,与牛津大学同为英国的最高学府。剑桥大学的卡文迪许实验室建于1871～1874年间,是当时剑桥大学的一位校长威廉·卡文迪许私人捐款兴建的。他是十八——十九世纪对物理学和化学作出过巨大贡献的科学家亨利·卡文迪许的近亲。这个实验室就取名为卡文迪许实验室,当时用了捐款8,450英磅,除去盖成一栋实验楼馆,还买了一些仪器设备。
Cavendish Laboratory is a physical laboratory at Cambridge University, in fact, is its Department of Physics. Built in 1209, Cambridge University has a long history and is the highest institution of the United Kingdom with Oxford University. The Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge University was built between 1871 and 1874 by private donations by William Cavendish, a principal of the University of Cambridge. He is a close relative of Henry Cavendish, a scientist who made a great contribution to physics and chemistry in the 18th to 19th centuries. The lab was named Cavendish Laboratories, which used a donation of 8,450 pounds to cover a laboratory building and bought some equipment.
