中性白细胞为高等动物对抗细菌的主要细胞防御系统,它具有趋化应答,移行和吞噬能力等特性。当微生物入侵机体时,中性白细胞能向入侵微生物所发出的趋化信号接近,并将其吞食、杀死在噬菌泡中。该细胞的杀菌能力有赖于关键酶—能产生过氧化物的NADPH-氧化酶激活和毒性氧代谢物的生成,以及颗粒释放的酶和其它蛋白质。现将中性白细胞在肺病理学方面的意义说明如下:
Neutrophils are the major cellular defenses against higher bacteria in higher animals. They have chemotactic responses, migration and phagocytosis. When microbes invade the body, neutrophils can approach the chemotactic signals emitted by the invading microbes and swallow them to kill them in phagosomes. The bactericidal ability of this cell depends on the key enzymes - the NADPH-oxidase-producing peroxide that produces peroxide and the production of toxic oxygen metabolites, as well as the enzymes and other proteins released by the particles. The significance of neutrophils in pulmonary pathology is now described as follows:
