2011年以来南京市政府部门纷纷将微博作为信息发布的一个重要渠道,目前已有75家政府部门开通了政务微博,而博主都是政府官员。南京市旅游园林局宣传处副处长袁伟是政务微博“南京旅游”的博主,他说:“我们微博一个宗旨就是服务、沟通、分享。服务主要是满足我们广大游客、我们市民和粉丝的信息需求。”和传统官方信息发布渠道不同的是,南京许多政务微博没有官腔,大量使用俏皮的语言和可爱的表情,被网民称为“很亲切、很清新”。
