The nature of the CIO’s work determines that CIOs must constantly deal with people in all aspects. And, as their status and responsibilities improve, the communication subjects that CIOs face are getting more and more complex. Not only do he have to communicate with subordinates in the IT department, with IT vendors and partners, but also with top executives and business managers, and even with outside resources such as corporate clients. Communication is increasingly becoming a very important part of the CIO’s work and communication skills have never been a must for CIO success as it is now. Communication is the process of setting a common goal of communicating information, thoughts and emotions among individuals or groups of people and reaching a common agreement. There are three elements of communication: first, there is a clear goal; second, to reach a common agreement; and third, to communicate information, thoughts and emotions. These three elements have also become the three major factors that determine the success of communication. Before the communication must have a clear goal, communication skills to grasp the process, to reach an agreement after the communication. Some experts point out that 75% of successful professionals rely on communication and 25% rely on talent and ability. This sentence is on the CIO. The same applies. As a result, CIO Insight magazine invited Zheng Wenjie, CIO of Golden Shield Holdings Ltd., Shang Jianjun, IT Manager of Jinhui Trading Co., Ltd., and Liu Yuan, senior consultant of AMT, to discuss the topic of “How CIOs Communicate Effectively with Top Leaders”.
