Determine Wheel-Rail Interactions Experiments with contact impression magnitude and shape show that the location of load action depends on many factors, such as contact surface shape, rail plane position, subgrade stiffness, and the like. If the head surface is made of a constant radius arc and it is considerably larger than the size of the contact surface (eg, above the rail waist), the pressure and the stress are not difficult to determine using the Höchtsubeloyev equation. However, where this theory is not applicable (in the orbital arc and the rail surface radius junction), the use of numerical methods, including the finite element method is appropriate.
