Over evolution, the human species has acquired higher cognitive function, which helps to distinguish Homo sapiens from other mammals.Particularly, humans have a large neocortex through the evolutionary expansion of the brain, which is believed to be instrumental in the estab-lishment of comprehensive neuronal circuits [1,2].A hallmark of the human brain is the highly convoluted brain surface structure, named gyrification or cortical folding, consisting of gyri and sulci, which significantly increase the cortical surface area. However, the mechanisms underlying the cortical expansion remain elusive.

It is widely acknowledged that holistic process-ing is a key characteristic of face perception.Although holistic processing implies the automatic integration of face parts,it is unclear whether such processing requires the awareness of face parts. Here,we
Dear Editor,rnHamanaka et al.first reported semaphorin 6B (SEMA6B)(MIM 608873) as a causative gene for progressive myoclonic epilepsy (PME) in 2020[1].They reported that four variants occurred in the last exon of SEMA6B in five unrelated individuals with

Dear Editor,rnIt is well-known that pupil size, albeit intrinsically sensi-tive to ambient luminance changes, can be modulated by many cognitive processes, especially those associated with physiological arousal[1].Compatible with this view, when observers are
Exposure to chronic hypoxia is considered to be a risk factor for deficits in brain function in adults, but the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown.Since active myelinogenesis persists in the adult central nervous system, here we aimed to investiga
