Objective To study the effect of angelica polysaccharide (ASP) on oxygen free radical (OFR) in experimental colitis in rats. Methods The rat TNBS-induced colitis model was established to detect the changes of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels to reflect the colon tissue of rats. The change of oxygen free radicals and the effects of different doses of Angelica sinensis polysaccharides on the degree of inflammation and mucosal damage in the colon were evaluated by myeloperoxidase (MPO) and histopathological score (HS). Results SOD and GSH-Px in the model group were significantly decreased, MDA, MPO, and HS were significantly increased. SOD and GSH-Px were negatively correlated with MPO. MDA and HS were positively correlated with MPO. Different doses of ASP can improve the detection indexes of the model group to varying degrees. Conclusion ASP has a certain ability to clear OFR and reduce colonic inflammation and tissue damage.
