中国水产科学研究院长江水产研究所与湖北省水产科学研究所、英山县地热实验站合作进行罗非鱼性别控制研究,经过9年的共同努力,获得了成功,并已通过技术鉴定。参加鉴定的专家和学者们认为:此项性别控制新技术在国内处于领先地位,获得的莫桑比克超雄鱼,其形态、生长发育和繁殖机能,表现正常,成活率较高;杂交全雄鱼则具有双重优势。罗非鱼具有食性广、生长快、产量高等优良性状,但性周期短、繁殖力强任其自由繁殖,就会导致养鱼池中密度过大,影响商品鱼质量。应用雄性激素处理性腺尚未分化的罗非鱼鱼苗,能获得90%以上的雄鱼,但是,这种方法的用药量比较大,未能在生产中推广。
