Objective To explore the impact of family status on self-esteem of university freshmen in Guangzhou. Methods The self-esteem scale SES was used to measure the explicit self-esteem level of college freshmen. At the same time, implicit self-esteem was measured by the implicit connection test, and the general family status problem was self-edited. Results There was significant difference in explicit self-esteem between male and female students (P <0.01), but no significant difference in implicit self-esteem (P> 0.05 (F1), P> 0.05) (F2) (P <0.05). There was a significant (P <0.05) interaction between growth and family income for incompatible IAT1, age and gender, There was also a significant interaction between IAT2 (P <0.05). Conclusion Family status has some influence on the freshmen’s self-esteem level, and personality plays a mediating role between the two.
