The morphological changes of the normal Pacini bodies in cat mesentery and the degeneration of the central axons and adjacent structures were observed under electron microscope. The main axons located in the cat’s mesentery Pacini bodies are composed of proximal myelinated end-pre-fibers and distal, non-myelinated termini. Small terminal and axonal-like structures, with more vesicles, fewer vesicles, or no vesicles, wrap around the unmyelinated portion of the central major axis and its protuberances. Bilateral cut off the visceral nerve 3 ~ 5d, the central spindle suddenly degeneration occurred. At the same time, the surrounding small structures with fewer vesicles, fewer vesicles, or no vesicles also disappear due to denaturation. Based on the above results and previous studies, we conclude that these small terminal and axon-like structures are the effector components of the sympathetic postganglionic nerve that travel along the visceral nerves and may have an impact on the susceptibility of the cat’s mesentery Pacini bodies.
