Color is an important factor in the beauty of teeth and oral prostheses. Tooth color comes from the volume scattering of light to the tooth. It is related to the wavelength of light, the irregular propagation of light in the tooth, and the absorption coefficient of light by the tooth tissue. This paper studies the relationship between tissue scattering coefficient and the possible existence of tooth color. Because scattering may be related to the porosity of the enamel, the enamel hardness was also considered in this study. The isolated anterior teeth used in this study were provided by an operating dentist in a fluoride zone in the United States.
