从５０年代的援越抗法，六、七十年代的援越抗美，到七、八十年代的对越自卫还击战，半个多世纪以来，广西边境处于战争和战备状态长达３６年之 久，边境各获人民为守疆卫国、维护和平作出了巨大牺牲的同时，也失去了许多建设发展的好机会，正所谓“内地搞开放，南疆在打仗，”“全国奔小康，边民在站岗”。直到１９９３年６月中越边境大排雷的帷幕在友谊关拉开，广西边境的自然美景才得以展现在世人面前。 ４月７日至１０日，我随中央记者团来到广西边境的靖西、龙州和凭祥等地采访，在这短暂的采访期间，我常常一个人跑到田间地头，或钻进村巷深处，或闯入木楼瓦房，尽可能更多地接触普通边民，与他们交谈，了解他们的生存状况。从他们哪朴素憨厚的笑脸和爽朗透明的言语中，我深深地感受到──受过战争洗礼的人们更向往宁静而平淡的生活。
