Peritoneal fibrosis has gradually become the main reason for the withdrawal of maintenance peritoneal dialysis patients, the occurrence of which is a complex process involving many factors. The connective tissue growth factor as a common downstream mediator of fibrotic stimulation plays an important role in this pathophysiological process and is considered as the ideal target for anti-peritoneal fibrosis. This article reviews the mechanism of non-physiological peritoneal fibrosis caused by peritoneal fluid, the biological characteristics of connective tissue growth factor and the specific role and regulation of connective tissue growth factor in the process of peritoneal fibrosis.
