Objective: To observe the effect of high-fat diet on serum lipids level and the diastolic function of thoracic aorta in SD rats and the effect of curcumin on these changes. Methods: Thirty healthy SD rats were divided into high fat diet group (n = 10), normal diet control group, high fat diet + curcumin group (n = 10) At the beginning of the experiment, the body weight of the rats in each group was measured at the beginning of the experiment and at the end of the experiment. Serum lipid concentrations were measured after 20 weeks and the vasodilation of the vessels was measured by the thoracic aorta. Results: ①The body weight of rats fed with high-fat diet was significantly higher than that of other groups. Curcumin significantly antagonized the increase of body weight caused by high-fat diet. Compared with the control group, TC, TG and LDL-C in the high-fat diet group were significantly increased (P <0.01 and P <0.05); ③Compared with the normal control group and the curcumin control group, The endothelium-dependent relaxation was significantly attenuated (P <0.05). Conclusion: ① The rats fed with high-fat diet significantly increased the serum lipids and the endothelium-dependent vasodilation of the thoracic aorta rings. ② curcumin has the prevention and treatment of high-fat diet caused by elevated blood lipids and improve the high-fat diet-induced endothelium-dependent relaxation of diastolic function.
