The industry believes that Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia are the world’s three major rubber producing countries, in order to avoid the decline in natural rubber prices, the three countries must reduce the production of natural rubber. Hidde Smit, secretary general of London’s International Rubber Research Group, said that if natural rubber production grew too fast, the price of natural rubber would fall to the level of 1999, the lowest price in 30 years. Thailand is the world’s largest producer of natural rubber and Vietnam is the fourth largest exporter in the world. Both countries increase their output of natural rubber, making gasoline substitutes more expensive as China’s car consumption and oil prices rise. According to the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries, the trade volume of Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, India and Sri Lanka, the world’s six largest natural rubber producers, accounts for 90% of the world’s natural rubber trade. The six countries plan to produce natural rubber from 2005 7.6 million tons increased to 8.7 million tons in 2010, an increase of 14%. According to Vietnam Rubber Association chairman
