The effects of shock waves on the blood serum atrial natriuretic Peptide (ANP) in guinea pigs and its relationship with the threshold of hearing threshold were studied by immunohistochemistry (ABC) combined with image analysis and electrophysiological techniques. The results showed that at 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours after shock exposure, the optical density of ANP-IR product in vascular pattern was significantly higher than that in 72 hours and control group (P <0.01) No significant difference in optical density (P> 0.05). The change of ANP-IR optical density in vascular pattern was positively correlated with ABR threshold shift. It is suggested that the increase of ANP content in vascular pattern may be a compensatory mechanism of the body’s hearing damage caused by shock wave; ANP may play a protective role in shock damage caused by shock wave.
