At some point on October 10, 1916, fanatical nationalists, steadfast believers in modernist industrial civilization, futurist dreamers, short-lived architects and soldiers Antonio Sant’Elia were attacked by an unknown Austro-Hungarian Empire Soldiers’ bullets shot on a muddy field in Monfalcone. Like these soldiers of one world war, this future idealist dedicated his life to a seemingly grand dream - nations and nations. If he does not die under the bullet of the Empire, then he may have a chance to realize his dream of “Future City.” Like Fritz Lang’s scene in his famous movie “Metropolis,” boulders, rebar and glass together support the vision to reality. Sadly, the painter and dreamer on the drawing board was treated as a future idealist, and Mayakovsky, even more short-lived in this era.
