Narrator: The pond freezes. Ugly duckling is too cold and she faints. Early in the morning, a farmer walks by.
Farmer: What’s this? Oh, a poor duckling! Let me help you.
Farmer: Dear, come here!
Child: Daddy, what’s this?
Wife: Oh, it’s a poor duckling. I’ll look after her carefully.
Farmer: Yes. She’ll be fine soon.
Child: Then I can play with this duckling. Oh, great!
Narrator: The ugly duckling gets well soon. But she is frightened by the child.
Child: Come and play with me! Come and play with me!
Ugly duckling: I am afraid. I must run away. Oh, no! Help!
Ugly duckling: Wow, beautiful spring! I can see the butterflies dancing and hear the birds singing. Here’s a cake!
Hen: Look, swans! They are dancing there.
Ugly duckling: They’re so beautiful! I want to stay with them. But I am so ugly. Maybe they will kill me! Never mind. I’ll die happily, if I can be with them for just a while.
Narrator: So, the ugly duckling swims to the swans. When the swans see the ugly duckling, they welcome her.
Swan1: Welcome to join us, my friend.
Ugly duckling: You’ll not kill me? I’m so ugly.
Swan2: No, dear, look at yourself!
Ugly duckling: What’s the matter? I can see a beautiful swan looking back at me in the water! Oh! Is that really me? I am a beautiful swan! I am not an ugly duckling at all! I’m so happy.
Narrator: The ugly duckling has become a beautiful swan. Every one praises this young one. But only she knows what she ever was and suffered.
