E. Pannovsky was born in 1892, as early as 1915, he was famous for his outstanding research on the theory of art of Dürer (Alb-recht Durer, 1471-1528), and he began to teach art history at Hamburg University. He studied the works of Alois Riegl (1858-1905, the most philosophical art historian of the 19th century), who had already had a profound knowledge of Kant’s philosophy. In fact, Riegler and Kant — and Ernst Cassirer (1874-1945, Kant’s modern interpreter) — were his primary source of reference, running through all of his career. Like Casile, Panovsky and researchers at Warburg Institute in Hamburg
